He said, “I will make you happy in so many ways. For sure, I will give you many children.”

saying, “Surely I will abundantly bless you, and multiply you marvelously.”

that he would bless Abraham again and again, and give him a son and make him the father of a great nation of people.

When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it all the way, putting his own reputation on the line. He said, “I promise that I’ll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!” Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they’ll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.

He said, “I will most certainly bless you and make you increase in number.”

saying, “Surely I will bless you greatly and increase your descendants abundantly.”

saying, “I will surely bless you and multiply you.”

saying: Surely I will bless you and multiply you indeed.

He said, “I promise you that I will bless you and give you many descendants.”

and said [saying], I blessing shall bless thee, and I multiplying shall multiply thee;

with the words, “I will most surely bless you, and multiply you very greatly.”

“I, the Lord, will bless you with many descendants!”

saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.”

When God made his promise to Abraham he swore by himself, for there was no one greater by whom he could swear, and he said: ‘Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you’. And then Abraham, after patient endurance, found the promise true.

He said, I will certainly bless you and multiply your descendants.

So he promised to himself when he said, `I will surely bless you and you will have many children.'
