si autem frater aut soror nudi sunt et indigent victu cotidiano
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,
And if a brother or sister is naked and lacking daily food,
Now if a brother or a sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
And if a brother or sister be naked, and want daily food:
If a brother or sister be naked, and in lack of daily food,
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,
Suppose a believer, whether a man or a woman, needs clothes or food
If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food
Suppose a brother or sister does not have any clothes or daily food
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food,
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.
Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food,
Suppose a Christian brother or sister is poorly clad or lacks daily food,
And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,
For example, maybe a believer does not have enough clothes to wear or enough food to eat.
and if a brother or sister may be naked, and may be destitute of the daily food,
What if a Christian does not have clothes or food?
For if a brother or a sister is naked and without daily food,
It would be like seeing a brother or sister without any clothes out in the cold and begging for food, and
If you have a friend who is in need of food and clothing,
Suppose a brother or sister is naked and lacks his or her daily food.
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food
If a brother or sister is poorly clad and lacks food for each day,
A brother or sister in Christ might need clothes or food.
Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?
If a brother or sister needs clothes and lacks daily food
If a brother or sister lacks adequate clothing and is in need of daily food,
If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food,
If a brother or a sister is without proper clothing, or destitute of daily food,
Suppose there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don't have enough to eat.
And if a brother or sister be naked, and have need of each day's livelode [of each day's lifelode],
Supposing a brother or sister is without clothing, and is short even of daily food,
If you know someone who doesn't have any clothes or food,
If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food,
Now what use is it, my brothers, for a man to say he “has faith” if his actions do not correspond with it? Could that sort of faith save anyone’s soul? If a fellow man or woman has no clothes to wear and nothing to eat, and one of you say, “Good luck to you I hope you’ll keep warm and find enough to eat”, and yet give them nothing to meet their physical needs, what on earth is the good of that? Yet that is exactly what a bare faith without a corresponding life is like—useless and dead. If we only “have faith” a man could easily challenge us by saying, “you say that you have faith and I have merely good actions. Well, all you can do is to show me a faith without corresponding actions, but I can show you by my actions that I have faith as well.” To the man who thinks that faith by itself is enough I feel inclined to say, “So you believe that there is one God? That’s fine. So do all the devils in hell and shudder in terror!” For, my dear short-sighted man, can’t you see far enough to realise that faith without the right actions is dead and useless? Think of Abraham, our ancestor. Wasn’t it his action which really justified him in God’s sight when his faith led him to offer his son Isaac on the altar? Can’t you see that his faith and his actions were, so to speak, partners—that his faith was implemented by his deed? That is what the scripture means when it says: ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the friend of God.’
