κἀγὼ οὐκ ᾔδειν αὐτόν, ἀλλʼ ἵνα φανερωθῇ τῷ Ἰσραὴλ διὰ τοῦτο ἦλθον ἐγὼ ⸀ἐν ὕδατι βαπτίζων.

kago ouk edein auton, all' ina phanerothe to Israel dia touto elthon ego ren udati baptizon.

et ego nesciebam eum sed ut manifestaretur Israhel propterea veni ego in aqua baptizans

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, “Here he is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, ‘the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.’ I knew nothing about who he was—only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize him as the God-Revealer. That is why I came here baptizing with water, giving you a good bath and scrubbing sins from your life so you can get a fresh start with God.”

On the following day, John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, “Look, there is the lamb of God who will take away the sins of the world! This is the man I meant when I said, ‘A man comes after me who is always in front of me, for he existed before I was born!’ It is true I have not known him, yet it was to make him known to the people of Israel that I came and baptised people with water.”

I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel.”

I did not know him. But God wants to make it clear to Israel who this person is. That’s the reason I came baptizing with water.”

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

I myself did not know who he was, but the reason I came immersing with water was so that he might be made known to Isra’el.”
