Τίνι οὖν ὁμοιώσω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης, καὶ τίνι εἰσὶν ὅμοιοι;

Tini oun omoioso tous anthropous tes geneas tautes, kai tini eisin omoioi;

cui ergo similes dicam homines generationis huius et cui similes sunt

And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

"To what then shall I compare the men of the present generation, and what do they resemble?

"To what then will I liken the people of this generation? What are they like?

Jesus continued to teach. He said, ‘I will talk to you about the people that are alive today. I will tell you what they are like.

And the Lord said, `To what, then, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

Then the Lord said, “What are the people of this day like?

Jesus: The people of this generation—what are they like? To what can they be compared?

“What can I say about such men?” Jesus asked. “With what shall I compare them?

Then Jesus said, “What shall I say about the people of this time? What are they like?

“How can I account for the people of this generation? They’re like spoiled children complaining to their parents, ‘We wanted to skip rope and you were always too tired; we wanted to talk but you were always too busy.’ John the Baptizer came fasting and you called him crazy. The Son of Man came feasting and you called him a boozer. Opinion polls don’t count for much, do they? The proof of the pudding is in the eating.”

“To what then will I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?

Jesus continued, “Now to what can I compare the people of this day? What are they like?

“What picture can I use,” Jesus continued, “for the people of this generation? What are they like?

Jesus went on to say: What are you people like? What kind of people are you?

“To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?

“What can I say that the men of this generation are like—what sort of men are they? They are like children sitting in the market-place and calling out to each other, ‘We played at weddings for you, but you wouldn’t dance, and we played at funerals for you, and you wouldn’t cry!’ For John the Baptist came in the strictest austerity and you say he is crazy. Then the Son of Man came, enjoying life, and you say, ‘Look, a drunkard and a glutton, a bosom-friend of the tax-collector and the outsider!’ Ah, well, wisdom’s reputation is entirely in the hands of her children!”

“To what, then, will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?
