The owner then sent another servant, but they insulted him and beat him over the head.

“The owner then sent another of his men, who received the same treatment, only worse, for his head was seriously injured.

“They grabbed him, beat him up, and sent him off empty-handed. So he sent another servant. That one they tarred and feathered. He sent another and that one they killed. And on and on, many others. Some they beat up, some they killed.

Again, he sent another servant to them. But they hit him on the head and treated him shamefully.

And again he sent to them another servant; and that one they struck on the head and treated dishonorably.

And again he sent another slave to them; this one they beat over the head and insulted.

And moreover he sent to them another servant, and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him back utterly reviled.

Then the owner sent another slave; the tenants beat him over the head and treated him shamefully.

And again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and tormented him [and punished him with chidings, or reprovings].

“So again he sent another slave to them. This one they beat about the head, and treated shamefully.

The owner sent another servant, but the renters beat him on the head and insulted him terribly.

Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.

Then he began to talk to them in parables. “A man once planted a vineyard,” he said, “fenced it round, dug out the hole for the wine-press and built a watch-tower. Then he let it out to some farm-workers and went abroad. At the end of the season he sent a servant to the tenants to receive his share of the vintage. But they got hold of him, knocked him about and sent him off empty-handed. The owner tried again. He sent another servant to them, but this one they knocked on the head and generally insulted. Once again he sent them another servant, but him they murdered. He sent many others and some they beat up and some they murdered. He had one man left—his own son who was very dear to him. He sent him last of all to the tenants, saying to himself, ‘They will surely respect my own son.’ But they said to each other, ‘This fellow is the future owner—come on, let’s kill him, and the property will be ours! So they got hold of him and murdered him, and threw his body out of the vineyard. What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard is going to do? He will come and destroy the men who were working his vineyard and will hand it over to others. Have you never read this scripture—‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?’”

So the man sent another servant to the renters. They hit this one on the head and treated him badly.

So he sent another servant; this one they punched in the head and insulted.

He sent another servant. They hurt this one also, and cut his head. The things they did to him were very wrong.

And again he sent another slave to them; this one they beat over the head and insulted.

And again the Baal Bayit sent to the tenants, the koremim, another eved; and that one they struck on the rosh and insulted.

So the man sent another servant to them. They hit the servant on the head and treated him shamefully.

Then he sent another servant to them. They threw stones at him, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

Then the man sent another servant to the farmers. They hit this servant on the head, showing no respect for him.

Then the man sent another servant. They hit him on the head and showed no respect for him.

And again he sent to them another slave, and that one they struck on the head and dishonored.

Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully.

And again he sent-forth another slave to them. And that one they struck-on-the-head, and dishonored.
