Jesus said to them, "Haven't you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?

"Have you never read," Jesus replied, "what David did when the necessity arose and he and his men were hungry:

He said to them, "Did you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry--he, and those who were with him?

Jesus replied, ‘You have certainly read about what David did one day. He and the men who were with him were very hungry. They needed food to eat.

And he said to them, `Did ye never read what David did, when he had need and was hungry, he and those with him?

He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he and his men were hungry?

And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry; both he and those who were with him?

Jesus (turning toward the Pharisees): Do you remember the story about what King David and his followers did when they were hungry and had nothing to eat? They said nothing, so He continued.

But Jesus replied, “Didn’t you ever hear about the time King David and his companions were hungry, and he went into the house of God—Abiathar was high priest then—and they ate the special bread only priests were allowed to eat? That was against the law too.

He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food?

And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;

And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those that were with him?

He said to them, “Have you never read what David and those who were with him did when he was in need and hungry —

And He said to them, Have you never [even] read what David did when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were accompanying him?—

Jesus answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and those with him were hungry and needed food?

Jesus said, “Really? Haven’t you ever read what David did when he was hungry, along with those who were with him? How he entered the sanctuary and ate fresh bread off the altar, with the Chief Priest Abiathar right there watching—holy bread that no one but priests were allowed to eat—and handed it out to his companions?” Then Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made to serve us; we weren’t made to serve the Sabbath. The Son of Man is no yes-man to the Sabbath. He’s in charge!”

He replied to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry (he and his companions)?

“Haven’t you ever read what David did,” replied Jesus, “when he was in difficulties, and he and his men got hungry?

Jesus answered, “Haven't you read what David did when he and his followers were hungry and in need?

Then he spoke to them. “Have you never read what David did, when he and his companions were hungry? Haven’t you read how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was High Priest, and ate the presentation loaves, which nobody is allowed to eat, except the priests—and gave some of the bread to his companions? The Sabbath,” he continued, “was made for man’s sake; man was not made for the sake of the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is master even of the Sabbath.”
