For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.

John had said to him, ‘Herodias is your brother's wife. It is not right for you to have her as your wife.’
for John said to Herod -- `It is not lawful to thee to have the wife of thy brother;'
John the Baptist had said to Herod, “It is wrong for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Herod had imprisoned John in the days before Jesus began His teaching. John had preached to Herod that he should not have married his own brother’s wife, Herodias, for so it is written in the Hebrew Scriptures: “It is not lawful for one to marry his brother’s wife.”
For Herod had sent soldiers to arrest and imprison John because he kept saying it was wrong for the king to marry Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
For John had told Herod, “It is unlawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had told Herod, It is not lawful and you have no right to have your brother’s wife.
John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to be married to your brother’s wife.”
Herod was the one who had ordered the arrest of John, put him in chains, and sent him to prison at the nagging of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. For John had provoked Herod by naming his relationship with Herodias “adultery.” Herodias, smoldering with hate, wanted to kill him, but didn’t dare because Herod was in awe of John. Convinced that he was a holy man, he gave him special treatment. Whenever he listened to him he was miserable with guilt—and yet he couldn’t stay away. Something in John kept pulling him back.
Indeed, John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been saying · to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have the wife of your brother.”
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
John said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.
John the Baptist kept telling Herod, “It isn't right for you to marry your brother's wife!”
For John said to Herod, It is not leaveful to thee, to have the wife of thy brother.
John regularly told Herod it wasn’t right for him to take his brother’s wife; so Herod gave the word, arrested him and tied him up in prison.
Herod had earlier married Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. But John had told him, “It isn't right for you to take your brother's wife!” So, in order to please Herodias, Herod arrested John and put him in prison.
For John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For Herod himself had sent and arrested John and had him bound in prison, all on account of Herodias, wife of his brother Philip. He had married her, though John used to say to Herod, “It is not right for you to possess your own brother’s wife.” Herodias herself was furious with him for this and wanted to have him executed, but she could not do it, for Herod had a deep respect for John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and protected him. He used to listen to him and be profoundly disturbed, and yet he enjoyed hearing him.
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been telling Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.’
but John told Herod, “It’s against the law for you to marry your brother’s wife!”
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful [under Mosaic Law] for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.”
John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to ·be married to [have] your brother’s wife.”
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not permitted for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
John had been saying to Herod, “It is against the Law for you to be married to your brother’s wife.”
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
but Yochanan had told him, “It violates the Torah for you to marry your brother’s wife.”
John had told Herod, `It is wrong for you to have your brother's wife.'
For John had been telling Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.’
But Yochanan was saying to Herod, It is not mutar according to the Torah for you to have your brother’s wife. [VAYIKRA 18:16, 20:21]
John had been telling Herod, “It’s not right for you to be married to your brother’s wife.”
For John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
John told Herod, “It is not right for you to be married to your brother’s wife.”
John told Herod that it was not lawful for him to be married to his brother’s wife.
For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not permitted for you to have your brother’s wife.”
For John had been saying to Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.’
For John was saying to Herod that “It is not lawful for you to have the wife of your brother”.
