Scribes and Pharisees: The law of Moses has always held that one must ritually wash his hands before eating. Why don’t Your disciples observe this tradition?
“Why do your disciples disobey the ancient Jewish traditions?” they demanded. “For they ignore our ritual of ceremonial handwashing before they eat.”

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem came and asked Jesus, “Why do your disciples break our ancient tradition and eat their food without washing their hands properly?”
