But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and come you to me?

But Yohannan had refused and said to him, “I need to be baptized by you, and you have come to me?”

but John urgently forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptised of thee; and comest thou to me?

But John stayed him, saying: I ought to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me?

But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

But John tried to stop him and said, "I need to be baptized by you. Why are you coming to me?"

But John tried to stop Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and yet You come to me?"

But John tried to talk him out of it. "I am the one who needs to be baptized by you," he said, "so why are you coming to me?"

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me?

John protested. "It is I," he said, "who have need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?"

But John tried to stop him. He said to Jesus, ‘I should ask you to baptize me. You should not ask me to baptize you.’

but John was forbidding him, saying, `I have need by thee to be baptized -- and thou dost come unto me!'

John tried to stop Him. He said, “I need to be baptized by You. Do You come to me?”

But John earnestly hindered Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You! And You come to me?”

At first, John demurred. John: I need to be cleansed by You. Why do You come to me?

John didn’t want to do it. “This isn’t proper,” he said. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you.”

John tried to dissuade him, saying, “Why do you come to me? I am the one who needs to be baptized by you.”

But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

But John resisted him much, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

But John tried to stop him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”

But John protested strenuously, having in mind to prevent Him, saying, It is I who have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?

But John tried to stop him, saying, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I need to be baptized by you!”

Jesus then appeared, arriving at the Jordan River from Galilee. He wanted John to baptize him. John objected, “I’m the one who needs to be baptized, not you!”

But John tried to stop him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”

· But John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet do you come to me?”

John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

But John stopped him, saying, I ought to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?

But John tried to make him change his mind. “I ought to be baptized by you,” John said, “and yet you have come to me!”

And John forbade him, and said, I owe to be baptized of thee, and thou comest to me? [Soothly John forbade him, saying, I owe to be christened of thee, and comest thou to me?]

John tried to stop him. “I ought to be baptized by you,” he said, “and are you going to come to me?”

But John kept objecting and said, “I ought to be baptized by you. Why have you come to me?”

John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John. But John tried to prevent him. “I need you to baptise me”, he said. “Surely you do not come to me?” But Jesus replied, “It is right for us to meet all the Law’s demands—let it be so now.”

John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

John tried to stop him and said, “I need to be baptized by you, yet you come to me?”

But John tried to prevent Him [vigorously protesting], saying, “It is I who need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be immersed by You, and You are coming to me?”

John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

But John tried to stop him. So he told Jesus, “I need to be baptized by you. So why do you come to me?”

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

But Yochanan tried to stop him. “You are coming to me? I ought to be immersed by you!”

John tried to stop him. He said, `I need to be baptised by you. Why do you come to me to be baptised?'

John would have prevented him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?’

But Yochanan would have deterred him, saying, I have need to submit to your tevilah [T.N. i.e., Moshiach’s tevilah], and yet you come to me?

But John tried to stop him and said, “I need to be baptized by you. Why are you coming to me?”

But John prohibited Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

But John tried to stop him. John said, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I should be baptized by you!”

But John tried to stop him. John said, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I should be baptized by you!”

But John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

But John tried to deter him, saying, ‘I need to be baptised by you, and do you come to me?’

But John was preventing Him, saying, “I have a need to be baptized by You, and You are coming to me?”
