If Abraham had God's approval because of something he did, he would have had a reason to brag. But he could not brag to God about it.

God did not accept Abraham as right with him because Abraham had done good things. If God had done that, then Abraham would have been able to boast about himself. But he could not boast to God.
for if Abraham by works was declared righteous, he hath to boast -- but not before god;
If Abraham was made right with God by what he did, he would have had something to be proud of. But he could not be proud before God.
For if Abraham were justified by works, he has grounds to boast. But not with God.
If Abraham was made right by performing certain works, then he would surely have something to brag about. Right? Not before the Creator God,
Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What were his experiences concerning this question of being saved by faith? Was it because of his good deeds that God accepted him? If so, then he would have something to boast about. But from God’s point of view Abraham had no basis at all for pride.
If Abraham was justified by the works he did, he has good reason to boast, but not in the eyes of God.

For if Abraham was justified (established as just by acquittal from guilt) by good works [that he did, then] he has grounds for boasting. But not before God!

So how do we fit what we know of Abraham, our first father in the faith, into this new way of looking at things? If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. But the story we’re given is a God-story, not an Abraham-story. What we read in Scripture is, “Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own.”
If indeed Abraham had been justified by works, he would have had a reason to boast—but not before God.

If Abraham were justified by deeds, then he has wherein to glory, but not with God.
If he was put right with God by the things he did, he would have something to boast about—but not in God's sight.
For if Abraham is justified of works of the law, he hath glory, but not with God.
After all, if Abraham was reckoned “in the right” on the basis of works, he has grounds to boast—but not in God’s presence!
If he became acceptable to God because of what he did, then he would have something to brag about. But he would never be able to brag about it to God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
Now how does all this affect the position of our ancestor Abraham? Well, if justification were by achievement he could quite fairly be proud of what he achieved—but not, I am sure, proud before God. For what does scripture say about him? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness’.

Because if Abraham was made righteous because of his actions, he would have had a reason to brag, but not in front of God.
For if Abraham was justified [that is, acquitted from the guilt of his sins] by works [those things he did that were good], he has something to boast about, but not before God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
Indeed, if Abraham was justified on the basis of his works, he has reason to boast; but this was not so in the sight of God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God.
If Abraham was ·made right [justified; declared righteous] by ·the things he did [L the works of the law], he had a reason to ·brag [boast]. ·But this is not God’s view [or …but he could not boast before God],
For if Abraham was set right by works, he has something to boast about—but not before God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
For if Avraham came to be considered righteous by God because of legalistic observances, then he has something to boast about. But this is not how it is before God!
If Abraham was put right with God, because of what he did, he has something to be proud of. But he has nothing to be proud of when he stands before God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
For if Avraham Avinu was accounted to be YITZDAK IM HASHEM and acquitted before Hashem on the basis of ma’asim tovim (Works), he has something to boast about. But not before Hashem!
If Abraham had God’s approval because of something he did, he would have had a reason to brag. But he could not brag to God about it.
