The Lord our God is making this strong covenant with you people who are standing here with him today. But it is not only with you. He also makes this covenant with those people who are not here today.

This contract is not with you alone as you stand before him today, but with all future generations of Israel as well.

I’m not making this Covenant and its oath with you alone. I am making it with you who are standing here today in the Presence of God, our God, yes, but also with those who are not here today. You know the conditions in which we lived in Egypt and how we crisscrossed through nations in our travels. You got an eyeful of their obscenities, their wood and stone, silver and gold junk-gods. Don’t let down your guard lest even now, today, someone—man or woman, clan or tribe—gets sidetracked from God, our God, and gets involved with the no-gods of the nations; lest some poisonous weed sprout and spread among you, a person who hears the words of the Covenant-oath but exempts himself, thinking, “I’ll live just the way I please, thank you,” and ends up ruining life for everybody. God won’t let him off the hook. God’s anger and jealousy will erupt like a volcano against that person. The curses written in this book will bury him. God will delete his name from the records. God will separate him out from all the tribes of Israel for special punishment, according to all the curses of the Covenant written in this Book of Revelation.

Today I am not making this covenant and its oath only with you,

I am making this covenant, sworn by an oath, not only with you who stand here with us today before the Lord our God,

You are not the only ones with whom the Lord is making this covenant with its obligations.

And not to you alone I make this bond of peace, and confirm these oaths, (And it is not with you alone do I make this covenant, and confirm this oath,)

In this agreement, the Lord promised that you would be his people and that he would be your God. He first made this promise to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and today the Lord is making this same promise to you. But it isn't just for you; it is also for your descendants.

but with whomever is standing here with us today before Adonai our God and with whomever is not here with us today.

Nor is it with you only that I make this sworn covenant,

I’m making this covenant and the promise that goes along with it. I’m making this covenant with you.

Rather, I am making it both with him who is standing here with us today before Adonai our God and also with him who is not here with us today.
