God (to the serpent): What you have done carries great consequences. Now you are cursed more than cattle or wild beasts. You will writhe on your belly forever, consuming the dust out of which man was made.

So the Lord God said to the serpent, “This is your punishment: You are singled out from among all the domestic and wild animals of the whole earth—to be cursed. You shall grovel in the dust as long as you live, crawling along on your belly.

The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you will be the most cursed of all the animals and of all the wild beasts. On your belly you shall crawl and you shall eat dust for all the days of your life.
