Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned degenerate and become a wild vine?
I planted you like a choice grapevine from the very best seed. Now you have turned against me and have become a wild vine.
I planted you, a choice vine from the very best seed. How then could you turn into a degenerate, foreign vine?
I planted you myself as a choice vine, from the very best seed. How did you turn against me into a degenerate and foreign vine?
I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?
"Yet I planted you a choice vine, A completely faithful seed. How then have you turned yourself before Me Into the degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?
I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?
But I was the one who planted you, choosing a vine of the purest stock--the very best. How did you grow into this corrupt wild vine?
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me?
Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?
I planted you in my land, like the very good seed of a vine. But see how you have changed! You have become like a wild vine. Your grapes are bad and useless.
And I planted thee a choice vine, wholly a true seed, And how hast thou been turned to Me, To the degenerate shoots of a strange vine?
Yet I planted you as a vine of much worth, in every way a true seed. How then have you turned away from Me and become a wild vine?
I am the One who planted you like a select vine, chosen from vintage stock. How could you turn into such a useless, wild weed of a vine?
How could this happen? How could this be? For when I planted you, I chose my seed so carefully—the very best. Why have you become this degenerate race of evil men?
I had planted you as a choice vine from the purest stock. How then did you degenerate into a wild and corrupt vine?
Yet I planted you a choice vine, A completely true seed. How then have you turned yourself before Me Into the degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, a seed of Truth, all of her; how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
I planted you, a choice vine from the very best seed. How then could you turn into a degenerate, foreign vine?

But I planted you as a special vine, as a very good seed. How then did you turn into a wild vine that grows bad fruit?
“A long time ago you broke out of the harness. You shook off all restraints. You said, ‘I will not serve!’ and off you went, Visiting every sex-and-religion shrine on the way, like a common whore. You were a select vine when I planted you from completely reliable stock. And look how you’ve turned out— a tangle of rancid growth, a poor excuse for a vine. Scrub, using the strongest soaps. Scour your skin raw. The sin-grease won’t come out. I can’t stand to even look at you!” God’s Decree, the Master’s Decree.
But I planted you as a very good vine, healthy and from reliable stock. How then did you turn against me? How then did you turn into a wild vine?
Yet I planted you as a choice vine, from the purest stock. How then did you turn degenerate and become a wild vine?
I planted you like a choice vine from the very best seed. But look what you have become! You are like a rotten, worthless vine.
Forsooth I planted thee a chosen vinery, all true seed; how therefore art thou, an alien vinery, turned to me into a shrewd thing? (Yet I planted thee like a choice vine, all of you the best seed; and so how art thou turned into such a depraved thing, yea, a strange vine, to me?)
You were a choice grapevine, but you have become a wild, useless vine.
Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned degenerate and become a wild vine?

You were like a good vine when I planted you. You were a healthy plant. Then how did you turn against me? How did you become a bad, wild vine?
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
But I planted you as a choice vine of seed fully tested and true. How did you degenerate into a wild vine for me?
Yet I planted you as a choice vine, from the purest stock. How then did you turn degenerate and become a wild vine?

Judah, I planted you like a special vine. You were all from good seed. How did you turn into a different vine that grows bad fruit?
I planted you as a special vine. You were like very good seed. How then did you turn into a wild vine that grows bad fruit?
Yet I planted you as a choice vine, all of it a seed of trustworthiness. How then have you altered before me into something that is degenerate, the foreign vine?
I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?
