The ear scrutinizes speech just as the palate tastes food."

The ear tests the words it hears just as the mouth distinguishes between foods.
Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste its food?

We use our mouths to taste food. And we use our ears to test what we hear.
Doth not the ear try words? And the palate taste food for itself?
Does not the ear test words as the mouth tastes food?
Listen! Aren’t we made to be discriminating: our ears testing wisdom, our mouths tasting food?
Just as my mouth can taste good food, so my mind tastes truth when I hear it.

Certainly the ear proves words and the mouth tastes foods.
Doesn’t the ear test words as the palate tastes food?
Is it not the task of the ear to discriminate between [wise and unwise] words, just as the mouth distinguishes [between desirable and undesirable] food?
The ear tests words as the tongue tastes food.
“But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you; let the birds tell you what’s going on. Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics. Listen—the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories. Isn’t it clear that they all know and agree that God is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand— Every living soul, yes, every breathing creature? Isn’t this all just common sense, as common as the sense of taste? Do you think the elderly have a corner on wisdom, that you have to grow old before you understand life?
Isn’t it true that the ear tests words and the palate tastes food?
Does not the ear test words as the palate tastes food?
But just as your tongue enjoys tasting food, your ears enjoy hearing words.
Whether the ear deemeth not words, and the cheeks of the eater deem (the) savour, or the taste of meat? (Whether the ear judgeth not the words, like the tongue of the eater judgeth the savour, or the taste, of the food?)
We hear with our ears, taste with our tongues,
Does not the ear try words as the palate tastes food?
