I need someone to speak to God on my behalf. He should ask God not to punish me, as someone might try to help his friends.
And he reasoneth for a man with God, And a son of man for his friend.
If only a man could give reasons to God, as a man does for his neighbor!
Appealing to God as a mere man, as a human being might for the sake of his friend.

“O Earth, don’t cover up the wrong done to me! Don’t muffle my cry! There must be Someone in heaven who knows the truth about me, in highest heaven, some Attorney who can clear my name— My Champion, my Friend, while I’m weeping my eyes out before God. I appeal to the One who represents mortals before God as a neighbor stands up for a neighbor. “Only a few years are left before I set out on the road of no return.”
My intercessor pleads with God for a man, as another human pleads for his friend.
