For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

This is because I dread destruction from God. I could not do such things because I fear his majesty.
Indeed, the disaster from God was a dread for me, and I was powerless because of his majesty.
For I dreaded destruction from God, and for fear of his splendour I could not do such things.
