The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment.
Let him take away his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

Nobody can stop God from punishing me. If that were possible, I would not be afraid any more.
He doth turn aside from off me his rod, And His terror doth not make me afraid,
Let Him stop punishing me. And do not let fear of Him make me so afraid.
Who can remove God’s rod from my back and stave off the terror of Him that haunts me.
Oh, let him stop beating me, so that I need no longer live in terror of his punishment.

Let him take his tormentor away from me, and his terror will not perturb me.

That He might take His rod away from [threatening] me, and that the fear of Him might not terrify me.
Maybe he could remove God’s punishment so his terror would no longer frighten me.
“God and I are not equals; I can’t bring a case against him. We’ll never enter a courtroom as peers. How I wish we had an arbitrator to step in and let me get on with life— To break God’s death grip on me, to free me from this terror so I could breathe again. Then I’d speak up and state my case boldly. As things stand, there is no way I can do it.”
No one can make him take his rod away from me, so that the dread of him would not fill me with terror!
If he would take his rod away from me, and not let dread of him terrify me,
Stop punishing me, God! Keep your terrors away!
Do he away his rod from me, and his dread make not me afeared. (Let him take his rod away from me, and let not the fear of him, or his terrors, make me afraid.)
Can someone snatch away the stick God carries to frighten me?

Maybe he could remove ·God’s punishment [L his rod from me] so his terror would no longer frighten me.

I wish someone would keep God from punishing me. Then his terror wouldn’t frighten me anymore.

Eloah should take his rod away from me, and he should not terrify me.

I wish someone could take away the threat of God’s punishment. Then he would not frighten me anymore.
I wish someone could remove God’s punishment from me. Then his terror would not frighten me anymore.
May he remove his rod from me, and let his dread not terrify me;
someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more.
