Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot.
Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength.

I would speak to God and I would not be afraid. But now I cannot do that.
I speak, and do not fear Him, But I am not right with myself.
Then I would speak and not be afraid of Him. But I am not like that in myself.
I long to speak and defend myself without fear of Him and His reprisals; but as things stand now and as I am within myself, that’s not possible.
Then I could speak without fear to him and tell him boldly that I am not guilty.
Then I would speak out without fear of him, for I know I am not what I am thought to be.
Then I would speak and not fear Him; But I am not like that in myself.
Then I would speak and not fear him, because in this state I am not myself.
Then I would speak and not fear him. But that is not the case; I am on my own.
[Then] would I speak and not fear Him, but I am not so in myself [to make me afraid, were only a fair trial given me].
Then I could speak without being afraid, but I am not able to do that.
“God and I are not equals; I can’t bring a case against him. We’ll never enter a courtroom as peers. How I wish we had an arbitrator to step in and let me get on with life— To break God’s death grip on me, to free me from this terror so I could breathe again. Then I’d speak up and state my case boldly. As things stand, there is no way I can do it.”
If that happened, I would speak up and not be afraid. But I have no such mediator. I am left on my own.
then I would speak without fear of him, for I know I am not what I am thought to be.
I am not afraid. I am going to talk because I know my own heart.
I shall speak, and I shall not dread him; for I may not answer dreading. (I shall speak, and I shall not fear him; for I cannot answer if I am afraid.)
Then I could speak up without fear of him, but for now, I cannot speak.
Then I would speak without fear of him, for I am not so in myself.

Then I could say what I want without being afraid of him. But I cannot do that now.
Then I could speak up without being afraid of God. But I am not able to do that.
