Those who cherish worthless idols abandon their faithful love,

Those who pay regard to false, useless, and worthless idols forsake their own [Source of] mercy and loving-kindness.

“People who worship useless idols give up their loyalty to you.

Then Jonah prayed to his God from the belly of the fish. He prayed: “In trouble, deep trouble, I prayed to God. He answered me. From the belly of the grave I cried, ‘Help!’ You heard my cry. Salvation belongs to God!”

They that keep vanities, forsake their mercy idly. (Those who worship idols, idly desert thy mercy.)

All who worship worthless idols turn from the God who offers them mercy.

Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their true loyalty.

Those who worship vain idols forsake their true loyalty.

Those deceived by worthless things lose their chance for mercy.

When I became faint, I remembered the Lord; My prayer came to you in your holy temple.

As my soul was fading from me, I remembered Adonai and my prayer came to You, toward Your holy Temple.
