Bezer was located in the desert flatlands east of the Jordan River across from Jericho. Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim, Heshbon, and Jazer were from Gad. Bezer and Ramoth in Gilead were Safe Towns for people who had accidentally killed someone.
As for the cities of the several Merar′ite families, that is, the remainder of the families of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities.

In all, the last family of Levites, the Merari family, got 12 towns.
So the total number of towns given to the Merarite family groups was 12.
All these were the cities of the descendants of Merarite according to their families, the remaining families of the Levites; their allotment was twelve cities.
The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
