Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable.

Then raging water would have washed us away."

Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.
Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.
They would have been like deep water over our heads that drowned us.
Then passed over our soul had the proud waters.
The angry waters would have passed over our soul.”
The furious waters would have broken over us. Battered and overwhelmed, we surely would have drowned!
We would have drowned beneath the flood of these men’s fury and pride.
and we would have drowned in the raging waters.
Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.”

They would have swept us away like a mighty stream.
If God hadn’t been for us —all together now, Israel, sing out!— If God hadn’t been for us when everyone went against us, We would have been swallowed alive by their violent anger, Swept away by the flood of rage, drowned in the torrent; We would have lost our lives in the wild, raging water.
Then the wild waters would have swept us away.

Yes, the raging water would have swept right over us.

Then the mayim hazedonim (treacherous waters) would have swept over nafsheinu (our nefesh).
Then raging water would have washed us away.”
then the surging waters would have gone over us.
Those proud people would have been like water rising up to our mouth and drowning us.
They would have swept us away like a mighty stream.
Then over our soul would have passed the raging waters.”
