Like a stag that bellows over the brook of waters, so also my soul bellows for you, Lord Jehovah!

This is a special song for the music leader. The sons of Korah wrote it. God, I need you so much! I look for you, as a thirsty deer looks for streams of water.
To the Overseer. -- An Instruction. By sons of Korah. As a hart doth pant for streams of water, So my soul panteth toward Thee, O God.
As the deer desires rivers of water, so my soul desires You, O God.
For the worship leader. A contemplative song of the sons of Korah. My soul is dry and thirsts for You, True God, as a deer thirsts for water.

A white-tailed deer drinks from the creek; I want to drink God, deep drafts of God. I’m thirsty for God-alive. I wonder, “Will I ever make it— arrive and drink in God’s presence?” I’m on a diet of tears— tears for breakfast, tears for supper. All day long people knock at my door, Pestering, “Where is this God of yours?”

To the leader. A Maskil of the Korahites. As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.
As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God.
To victory, to the sons of Korah. As an hart desireth to the wells of waters; so thou, God, my soul desireth to thee. (To victory, for the sons of Korah, for their teaching. Like a hart desireth a well of water; so, O God, my soul desireth thee.)
