This is what will happen to those who trust in themselves and to their followers who believe them. Selah
This is what happens to those who live for the moment, who only look out for themselves: Death herds them like sheep straight to hell; they disappear down the gullet of the grave; They waste away to nothing— nothing left but a marker in a cemetery. But me? God snatches me from the clutch of death, he reaches down and grabs me.
This way of theirs is foolishness, but their followers approve of what they say. Interlude
Such is the fate of the foolhardy, the end of those who are pleased with their lot.Selah
See what happens to those who trust in themselves, the fate of those who are satisfied with their wealth—
This way of them is cause of stumbling to them; and afterward they shall please (al)together in their mouth. (Their way is a trap for themselves; and for all who seek to please them.)
Here is what happens to fools and to those who trust the words of fools:
This is the fate of those who have foolish confidence, the end of those who are pleased with their portion.Selah

That’s how it goes for those who are foolish, as well as for those who follow their lead, pleased with their talk. Selah
This is the fate of those who are foolishly confident, And of those after them who approve [and are influenced by] their words. Selah.
This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah
—but man does not abide in splendor. He is like the beasts—they perish.
This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. Selah

That’s what happens to those who trust in themselves. It also happens to their followers, who agree with what they say.

But people, even rich ones, will live only briefly; then, like animals, they will die.
Such is the fate of the foolhardy, the end of those who are pleased with their lot.Selah
This is their derech, kesel (folly, imprudent confidence) is theirs; and the fate after them of those who approve their words.
This is the final outcome for fools and their followers who are delighted by what they say: Selah
This is their way, it is their folly; yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah
That is what happens to all who trust in themselves and to anyone who accepts their way of life. Selah
This is what will happen to people who trust in themselves. And this will happen to their followers who believe them. Selah
This is the journey of those who have foolish confidence, and those after them who accept their sayings. Selah
This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings.
