When Raphael entered the house, Tobit greeted him first. When Raphael said, “Joyous greetings to you,” Tobit replied, “What joy can I experience anymore? I am blind. I can no longer see the light of heaven. I live in darkness like the dead who no longer see the light. Though still alive, I am dead for all intents and purposes. I hear people speak but I cannot see them.” Raphael said, “Have courage! God in his providence will restore your sight. Have courage!” Tobit then said, “My son Tobiah wishes to go to Media. Will you accompany him as his guide? I will pay your wages, brother.” “Yes,” he answered. “I can go with him. I am familiar with all the roads, for I have often been to Media. I have journeyed across all its plains and mountains, and I know all its roads.”

Then Tobias went out and called him, and said, “Young man, my father is calling for you.” So he went in to him, and Tobit greeted him first. He replied, “Joyous greetings to you!” But Tobit retorted, “What joy is left for me any more? I am a man without eyesight; I cannot see the light of heaven, but I lie in darkness like the dead who no longer see the light. Although still alive, I am among the dead. I hear people but I cannot see them.” But the young man said, “Take courage; the time is near for God to heal you; take courage.” Then Tobit said to him, “My son Tobias wishes to go to Media. Can you accompany him and guide him? I will pay your wages, brother.” He answered, “I can go with him and I know all the roads, for I have often gone to Media and have crossed all its plains, and I am familiar with its mountains and all of its roads.”

Tobit questioned him further, Tell me, my friend, what family and tribe do you belong to?

Then Tobias entered, and told all these things to his father; on the which things his father wondered, and he prayed the young man, that he would enter in to him. [Then Tobias, gone in, showed all these things to his father; after the which the father, wondered, prayed, that he should come in to him;]

Then Tobit said to him, “My brother, to what tribe and family do you belong? Tell me.”

Then Tobias went out and called him and said, “Young man, my father is calling for you.” So he went in to him, and Tobit greeted him first. He replied, “Many greetings to you!” But Tobit retorted, “What is left for me to greet any more? I am a man without eyesight; I cannot see the light of heaven, but I lie in darkness like the dead who no longer see the light. Although still alive, I am among the dead. I hear people’s voices, but I cannot see them.” But the young man said, “Take courage; the time is near for God to heal you; take courage.” Then Tobit said to him, “My son Tobias wishes to go to Media. So Tobias went out, called Raphael, and said to him, “Young man, my father is calling for you.” Raphael went in, and Tobit was the first to greet him. Raphael said, “May joy be yours!” Tobit responded, “What joy can there still be for me? My eyes are useless, and I can’t see the light of heaven. Instead, I lie in darkness just like the dead who no longer see the light. I live among the dead, hearing the sound of human beings without seeing them.” Raphael said to him, “Take heart! The time is near when God will heal you. Take heart!” Then Tobit said to him, “My son Tobias wants to go to Media. Brother, can you accompany and guide him? I will pay your wages.” Raphael said to him, “I’m able to go with him, for I know all the roads and have often traveled to Media and have passed through all its plains. So I’m familiar with its mountains and all its roads.”

Tobiah went out to summon him, saying, “Young man, my father is calling for you.” When Raphael entered the house, Tobit greeted him first. He replied, “Joyful greetings to you!” Tobit answered, “What joy is left for me? Here I am, a blind man who cannot see the light of heaven, but must remain in darkness, like the dead who no longer see the light! Though alive, I am among the dead. I can hear people’s voices, but I do not see them.” The young man said, “Take courage! God’s healing is near; so take courage!” Tobit then said: “My son Tobiah wants to go to Media. Can you go with him to show him the way? I will pay you your wages, brother.” He answered: “Yes, I will go with him, and I know all the routes. I have often traveled to Media and crossed all its plains so I know well the mountains and all its roads.”

Then Tobit said to him, “My brother, to what tribe and family do you belong? Tell me.”
