Tobit said in answer, “Welcome! God save you, brother. Do not be offended at me for wanting to learn the truth about you and your family. As it so happens, you are a relative, and of a good and noble lineage. I knew Hananiah and Nathaniah, the two sons of Shemaiah the elder. They used to go on pilgrimage with me to Jerusalem, where we would worship together. They never strayed from the path of righteousness. Your kindred are worthy people. You indeed come of good stock. Welcome!”
Then Tobit said to him, “Welcome! God save you, brother. Do not feel bitter toward me, brother, because I wanted to be sure about your ancestry. It turns out that you are a kinsman, and of good and noble lineage. For I knew Hananiah and Nathan, the two sons of Shemeliah, and they used to go with me to Jerusalem and worshiped with me there, and were not led astray. Your kindred are good people; you come of good stock. Hearty welcome!”
Tobit continued, I will pay the normal daily wage plus expenses for both of you.
Then Tobit said to him, Whether thou mayest lead my son to Gabael into Rages, a city of Media, and when thou comest again, I shall restore thy meed to thee? [And so said Tobit to him, Whether shalt thou be able to full lead my son to Gabael into Rages, city of Media, and when the comest again, I shall yield to thee thy meed?]
But tell me, what wages am I to pay you—a drachma a day, and expenses for yourself as for my son?
Then Tobit said to him, “You are very welcome, brother. Do not feel bitter toward me, brother, because I wanted to be sure about your family. It turns out that you are a kinsman and of good and noble lineage. For I knew Hananiah and Nathan, the two sons of the elder Shemeliah, and they used to go with me to Jerusalem and worship with me there; they were not led astray. Your kindred are good people; you are of good stock. Welcome!”

Tobit said to him, “May you come in health and safety, brother! Don’t be offended, brother, that I wanted to know the truth about your family. But you happen to be a relative, and you are from a good and honorable heritage. I knew Hananiah and Nathan, the two sons of the great Shemeliah. They used to go with me to Jerusalem. They used to worship with me there and weren’t led astray. Your relatives are good men; you are of good stock, and may you feel welcome for coming here!”
Tobit exclaimed: “Welcome! God save you, brother! Do not be provoked with me, brother, for wanting to learn the truth about your family. It turns out that you are a kinsman, from a noble and good line! I knew Hananiah and Nathan, the two sons of the great Shemeliah. They used to go to Jerusalem with me, where we would worship together. They were not led astray; your kindred are good people. You are certainly of good lineage. So welcome!”
But tell me, what wages am I to pay you—a drachma a day, and expenses for yourself as for my son?
