With difficulty do we assess what is on earth, and that which is within our reach we discover only after arduous labor; who then can seek out the things of heaven?
We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labor; but who has traced out what is in the heavens?
All we can do is make guesses about things on earth; we must struggle to learn about things that are close to us. Who, then, can ever hope to understand heavenly things?
And of hard we guess those things, that be in (or on) (the) earth; and we find with travail those things, that be in beholding. But who shall search those things, that be in (the) heavens? [or That forsooth in heavens be, who shall ensearch?]

At best, we can barely draw correct inferences concerning things we find on earth. Only after much thought and work do we come to understand what is right in front of us. Who among us then is able to examine heavenly things?
Scarcely can we guess the things on earth, and only with difficulty grasp what is at hand; but things in heaven, who can search them out?
